A journey of compassion and support

When tragedy strikes, the last thing anyone wants to worry about is financial stability

For Sarah* and her family, ClearView played a vital role in providing both financial support and peace of mind during one of the most challenging periods of their lives.

Sarah had spent over two decades building a successful career as a technical textile product developer. Her work required extensive travel, consulting, and overseeing the production of innovative protective, active, and compression wear for clients all around Australia. She thrived in her role, providing invaluable insights and services to businesses, from start-ups to established companies.

In August 2022, Sarah was diagnosed with Stage 3, Grade 3 breast cancer. The diagnosis came as a complete shock, immediately halting her career. Her family faced a daunting and uncertain future, not only in terms of Sarah’s health but also in how they would manage financially during her treatment and recovery.

“It was enormous shock at the time, an emotional sledgehammer. Of course, fear, denial and anger soon followed. We couldn’t see past the next hour let alone day or week.” Sarah’s husband David* said.

Fortunately, Sarah had Trauma, Income Protection, TPD and Life Insurance cover with ClearView since 2014. This proved invaluable as ClearView’s prompt and compassionate handling of her claims offered the family much-needed reassurance.

Within three weeks of her diagnosis, Sarah’s Trauma and Income Protection benefit were paid out. This rapid financial support allowed Sarah and her family to focus on her treatment rather than worrying about their immediate financial needs.

“The work of ClearView’s claims consultants was remarkable. I can’t help but get emotional recalling their kindness and understanding. Most of all, their efficiency and professionalism brought us the greatest financial relief. When it came to the TPD claim, we knew how complex and challenging it could be, both medically and occupationally. Yet, the claims consultants assigned to our case handled everything with professionalism and empathy. The claim was processed within the industry average of 4.7 months, and this was life-changing for us. We are deeply grateful.”

Sarah’s battle with cancer was far from easy. Following her diagnosis, she underwent surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and an oophorectomy. The intense treatments took a toll not only on her physical health but also on her cognitive and emotional well-being. Chemotherapy wreaked havoc on Sarah’s body, causing nerve, sensory, glucose, brain and heart complications.

Throughout this harrowing journey, ClearView’s support remained steadfast. She was recommended the Cancer Coach program by Osara Health which offered Sarah additional layers of support including mental health coaching and education, giving her guidance through a difficult time.

”I was introduced to the Osara Cancer Coaching program via my insurance provider ClearView following my stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis and treatment a little while ago. Prior to the program I had already been very proactive with my cancer treatment and incredibly focused on my overall physical recovery including diet and exercise. I was assigned a Health Coach, and it wasn’t long into our calls together that I realised that I had been heavily focusing on getting my physical health ‘back to normal’ and I’d not been investing time in recovering my mental heath.”

“My Health Coach really helped support me by actively listening to my worries, encouraging me to see how far I’d come and also helping me to acknowledge that it’s normal to feel sadness or grief for the things cancer had taken from me. I felt safe and supported to discuss my honest and sometimes raw feelings and I left each session feeling more positive and empowered. I’ve found journaling to be a great tool for getting my feelings out and I’m practicing focusing on the things that I am doing rather than the things I’m not able to do, which is helping me to have a more positive outlook.”
